Vasconcelos and Isom headline All-WCC honors
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – Senior forward Michele Vasconcelos was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year and junior defender Taylor Isom was named WCC Defensive Player of the Year on Tuesday as eight Cougars received All-WCC honors.
Senior forward Ashley Hatch and senior midfielder Elena Medeiros joined Vasconcelos and Isom on the All-WCC First Team. Junior forward Nadia Gomes was named to the All-WCC Second Team. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Clark received All-WCC Honorable Mention. Defenders Danika Bowman and Alyssa Jefferson were named to the All-WCC Freshman Team.
Vasconcelos had a remarkable conference season, with seven goals and seven assists in league play. She helped BYU wrap up a share of the WCC title with goals in five straight games to finish the regular season.
Isom anchored a defense that allowed just two goals in WCC games. She helped the Cougars to seven shutouts in nine conference contests.
Hatch played in seven league games and had six goals and an assist. Medeiros played in each WCC game and had two goals and four assists.
Gomes, last year's WCC Player of the Year, had two goals and three assists during BYU's WCC slate.
Clark went 7-1-1 between the pipes, allowed two goals and had a save percentage of .889.
Bowman led the team in minutes played with 1,698 (89.4 per game). Bowman, Jefferson, Isom, Stephanie Ringwood Ney and Clark were so stingy as a starting defense that when the Cougars scored at least one goal in a game this season, they won.
