BYU edged out by No. 2 UCLA, 2-1
LOS ANGELES — The BYU women's soccer team fell 2-1 to No. 2 UCLA in an exhibition match at Drake Stadium Friday night.
The Bruins found the back of the net in the 14th minute to take an early 1-0 lead, but the Cougars answered with a goal of their own in the 25th minute. After a long ball was sent into the box, Madie Siddoway Gates got a shot off, forcing the keeper to make a save. The ball bounced to Elise Flake, who was wide open at the top of the box and placed the ball in an open net to even the score at 1-all.
After an evenly matched second half, the Bruins put together an attack that resulted in a goal in the 89th minute to take the 2-1 win.
On the game, UCLA outshot the Cougars 16-11.
The Cougars return to South Field on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. MDT for the annual alumni scrimmage and final exhibition match. Admission will be free and audio broadcasts can be heard on BYU Radio (Sirius XM 143) and ESPN 960 AM.
