Senior forward Jadyn Edwards scored a golden goal just 35 seconds into overtime to clinch the title for the Lobos, their second title in program history. New Mexico's trip to the 2020 NCAA Tournament included a matchup against Navy in the first round, advancing on penalty kicks 4-2. The Lobos then fell to TCU 6-2 in the second round. Overall, the Lobos have a 0-3-1 record in NCAA Tournament play. They went to the First Round in 2010, 2011 and advanced as far as the second round in the 2020 season.
COUGARS VS. LOBOS. BYU was a member of the Mountain West Conference from 1999 to 2010, so the Cougars and Lobos have faced each other 21 times, with BYU holding a 15-4-2 all-time record over New Mexico. The last time the two teams met was in an infamous, physical double-overtime Mountain West battle at South Field in 2010.
