BYU's 14th ranked women's soccer team whips 20th ranked Northwestern
Missoula, MT. (Sept. 4) -- Four goals in each half was more than enough for BYU's 14th ranked women's soccer team to defeat no. 20 Northwestern 8-1 Saturday afternoon, in this year's Montana Soccer Showdown Tournament.
Six Cougar players scored the eight goals for BYU including two from Natalyn Orchard and Sara Higham. All-America Maren Hendershot, junior Kim Lowe and freshmen newcomers Jeni Williardson and Rachelle Dixon scored a goal a piece in the contest. Hendershot also picked up three assists in the game.
Northwestern's lone goal came at the 87th minute of the game on a direct kick by Kristen Palmer.
BYU's Sarah Higham is the team's scoring leader to date with three goals on the season including last week's game winner in overtime against Arizona State.
The win improves BYU's record to 2-0 on the year. The Cougars will play Montana on Labor Day at 1 p.m. The Grizzlies defeated Northwestern 2-0 on Friday.
