Utah Highlights Two Home Games This Week
After starting its season on the road with a tie against No. 19 Washington, the BYU women's soccer team will return home this week for two games against instate rival Utah on Tuesday, August 23, and the University of Miami on Friday, August 26.
Tuesday's Deseret Duel matchup against Utah will kick off at 7 p.m. MT and Friday's game will start at 8 p.m. MT. In anticipation of a large crowd at both games, an extra 1,000 bleachers will be added for fans. All students get into the game for FREE with a BYU I.D. card.
The Cougars play host this week, holding a 0-0-1 record, with Carlee Payne and Dana Oldroyd in the BYU season stats as the first two to record goals for BYU in the 2011 season. Hermann Trophy Candidate Lindsi Lisonbee and goalkeeper McKinzie Olson continue to hold down the defense for BYU as a formidable force to be reckoned with in the backfield.
The Utes come to Provo after their home opener against Cal State Fullerton ended in a scoreless tie and, like the Cougars, went into double overtime. Utah was picked to finished 10th in the Pac-12's preseason coaches poll this season after returning eight starters to a team that finished 4th in the Mountain West Conference last year.
Miami comes to Provo under a new head coach, with two games under its belt and a 1-1 record. The Hurricanes opened their 2011 season against Florida with a 0-2 loss and then defeated Monmouth 3-0. Miami missed its invitation to the ACC tournament last season, with a 9th place finish in the conference, after falling to then-ranked No. 3 Maryland.
Both games will be televised live on BYUtv and online for free at byutv.org/live. Jarom Jordan (@jaromjordan) and Natalyn Lewis provide play-by-play commentary for all women’s soccer games on BYUtv.
