PROVO, Utah - Redshirt freshman Marissa Nimmer netted the only goal of the game in the BYU women's soccer team's Blue/White scrimmage, giving the white team the edge over the blue team.

"Our white team was connecting really well tonight and creating a lot of opportunities," Nimmer said. "The ball just came loose and I was able to find the net. We all really connected tonight on our passes and were able to find good shots."

The squad split to compete against itself in two 35-minute halves as fans were able to get their first look at this year's team. A lot of good opportunities were created on both sides and all rostered players, that were able, had a chance to see minutes on the field.

Senior Jessica Ringwood led all players with six shots on the night. Ringwood got things started at the beginning of the game, for the blue team, with a quick shot that went just barely wide. Annie Amos for the white team responded quickly with a shot of her own before blue got back-to-back shots on goal from Niki Fernandes and Carlee Payne Holmoe.

Nimmer's goal came in the 26th minute with a shot outside the box that sent the ball sailing into the top-right corner, just over the head of goalkeeper Katherine Snyder. Both teams got good looks in the second half as well but the goalkeepers were able to keep them out of the net.

To kick off the 2012 season, the team will play its first game on the road against UC Irvine on August 17 at 7 p.m. PT.
