Cougars play at home on Thursday
PROVO, Utah - The No. 9/6 BYU women's soccer team will play its first of three home games this Thursday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. MDT against the Utah Valley University Wolverines.
The Cougars are most recently coming off a win over Oregon where they recorded their sixth shutout of the year and eighth-straight win.
Jaiden Thornock and Michele Murphy are leading the squad with five goals apiece. Thornock's 37 shots also lead the team.
BYU goalkeeper Erica Owens has recorded 941 minutes in front of the net this year and made 35 saves.
Opponents
The Wolverines travel to South Field with a 1-8-1 record and on a four-straight game losing streak. Their last loss came against Seattle University in a 2-4 final.
Regan Benson leads the squad with four goals and 24 shots. Four of her teammtes join her in recording double-digit shots and 10 others have tallied at least one shot on the year.
UVU went 12-8-1 in 2011 and returns its top two goal scorers for the 2012 season in Natalie Young and Benson. Young had 12 goals last year and Benson contributed seven.
In the Great West Conference’s three years of existence, the UVU women’s soccer team has won the tournament championship the last two years. Also in 2011 the team won the regular season GWC title and set a school record for its 12 wins that year.
