Away on Thursday, senior day on Saturday

PROVO, Utah - Sitting atop the West Coast Conference standings, the No. 5 BYU women's soccer team will play a road game this Thursday against the University of San Diego at 7 p.m. PDT before returning home for its final regular-season home game on Saturday against Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. MDT.

Saturday's game will be Senior Day. The team will honor nine seniors for their contributions to the team over the last four years. 

Freshman Michele Murphy leads the BYU squad with eight goals on the year. Senior Carlee Payne Holmoe leads with eight assists and senior Jessica Ringwood leads with 60 shots. 

Goalkeeper Erica Owens is currently 18th in the NCAA for her GAA at .574. Owens has made 47 saves so far this season and spent 1,411 minutes in front of the net. 

The BYU defense is holding its opponents to just an average of 7.7 shots per game, compared to BYU's offense that is taking 18.5 shots per game. 

Opponents
San Diego has a 7-9-0 overall record and 4-3-0 record through conference play.

The Toreros have lost their last two games after being on a four-game winning streak the weeks before.

The last time BYU played at San Diego was in 1995 when the team lost 4-0.

Emily Dillon leads the Toreros with three goals and 23 shots this season. San Diego goalkeeper McKenna Tollack has made 65 saves this season through 1,201 minutes in front of the net.

Saint Mary’s comes to Provo on Saturday with a 6-9-2 overall record and 1-4 record through WCC action.

The Gaels are on a four-game losing streak, all conference games, with their one WCC win coming on Oct. 7 against Gonzaga.

Vicki Shimkus and Melinda Madden lead the Gael squad with four goals apiece. Shimkus also leads with 34 shots.

Saint Mary’s is averaging 12.4 shots per game.
