FORT COLLINS -- A day after being swept by conference-leader New Mexico, the BYU softball traded victories with Colorado State Saturday. The Cougars dropped the first game, 6-0, but rebounded to win the second, 8-3.

The only runs scored in the first game came in the third inning, when the Rams exploded for six runs, five unearned, off two Cougar errors. Maryon Dewitt picked up the loss to fall to 5-6 on the year.

In the second game, Lindsay Jones got the start and went the distance to pick up the win and even out at 1-1 for the year. The Cougars capitalized on three errors by the Rams in the first inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh to seal the 8-3 win. Second baseman Jackie Ellis led the team with a 2-for-4 performance, including a solo home run.

BYU improved to 10-17, 2-3 MWC, while Colorado State ended the weekend at 11-20, 3-3 MWC. The Cougars will take on in-state rival Utah next weekend in their first home meeting ever.
