STANFORD -- BYU split its final two games of the Stanford Classic, beating Wisconsin, 7-6 and losing to No. 5 Stanford, 8-0.
Whereas the Cougars (17-6) first game of the day featured a dramatic ending in an 11-inning win, the second tilt of the doubleheader wasn't competitive.
The action in game one against Wisconsin didn't start until late as neither team managed to score a run until the seventh inning. The Cougars had their early chances but were unable to get any runs. BYU had runners aboard in each of the first three innings but left five runners on base including a bases loaded situation in the third.
In the pitchers circle, Daniella Urincho dominated the first six innings. Urincho didn't allow a hit through the opening six frames,
It was the Badgers that finally drew first blood in the top of the seventh innings when they strung together three hits and took a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, BYU was down to its last out with a runner on third base when freshman Andrea Ramirez came up with a clutch RBI single that pushed the game to extra innings.
After both teams were held scoreless in the eighth, Wisconsin put the pressure on by score two in the top of the ninth. Once again BYU's answer was Ramirez, who came up with a two-run single to tie the game for the Cougars.
In the 10th inning each team added a run and Wisconsin scored two in the 11th to set the stage for Russell's dramatic walk-off hit. After Tracee Hoch got a RBI single and scored later on an error, Ramirez scored the game-winning run on Russell's RBI single.
In game two, Stanford made quick work of the Cougars. The Cardinal's pitcher Missy Penna struck out nine batters, while only giving up one hit.
BYU stayed close until the fourth inning when the Cardinal exploded for five runs. After getting the Cougars in order in the fifth, Stanford added another run to go ahead 7-0. The Cardinal ended the game with another run in the sixth.
BYU will have a week off before traveling to take on two more ranked teams in Oregon starting March 23.

PROVO -- After an offensive outburst that led to a Texas A&M Invitational Championship, the BYU softball team looks to continue its success at the Stanford Classic.
The Cougars, now 14-5, outscored their opponents 37-8 while going 4-1 in the tournament held in College Station, Texas. After losing the first game of the tournament, 3-2, in heartbreaking fashion to 14th-ranked tournament host, BYU bounced back with two consecutive wins by the eight-run rule.
This week, BYU will try to keep its winning ways going when it squares off against three teams that the Cougars have never faced. BYU will get its first shot at Middle Tennessee State (6-14-1), Miami (Ohio) (12-8) and Wisconsin (4-6). The Cougars will also play Pacific (8-8) and No. 5 Stanford (17-4).
"Our bats obviously came alive this weekend," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said last week of the Cougars' offensive production.
BYU will look to extend its season-high win streak of four games. The Cougars start the tournament playing MTSU Thursday at 2 p.m. (MST) before finishing the tournament with a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday.
