EUGENE -- Despite out-hitting Oregon, BYU squandered opportunities and lost to the Ducks, 2-1, Friday afternoon.
The Cougars, now 18-8, were scheduled to play a doubleheader with Oregon but rain washed the second game away.
The game proved to be a pitching battle, with BYU pitcher Daniella Urincho getting the tough-luck loss. Urincho pitch a complete game for the loss on an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
Oregon took the early lead when it showed patience and drew a pair of walks and picked up a hit. The Ducks got their run when Urincho hit Sari-Jane Jenkins with a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning.
BYU came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Jennifer Whiteley picked up one of her two hits on the game and scored on a Tracee Hoch RBI double. The Cougars only managed the one run while leaving 10 runners on base.
Oregon's game winner came with one out in the seventh when Lavena Chaput nailed a RBI single after an error.
BYU returns to action tomorrow as it travels to Corvallis, Ore. to take on Albany and No. 8 Oregon State.

PROVO -- In the final week before Mountain West Conference play begins, BYU heads to Oregon to compete in perhaps its toughest road trip of the season.
The Cougars (17-6) will play six games against four teams--three of which were ranked in the USA Softball/ESPN.com preseason Top-25. BYU will also be looking for a better showing than a similar trip to Oregon last season where the Cougars went 1-5.
Play starts for BYU Thursday afternoon when the Cougars face No. 22 DePaul in a doubleheader. Game times are scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m. (PST). Friday, BYU will play a twinbill against Oregon with the same start times. The Cougars first four games will be played in Eugene, Ore.
BYU will then make the short trip to Corvallis, Ore. to take on Akron and No. 8 Oregon State on Saturday. Game times are projected for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. The Beavers are one of the hottest teams in Division I softball, having won their last 21 games.
The Cougars, who were idle last week, will use the Oregon trip as their final tune up before MWC play begins on March 30 at home against UNLV.
