ALBUQUERQUE -- An offensive explosion led by Ianeta Le`i, propelled BYU to a doubleheader sweep over New Mexico, 11-1 and 12-10.

The Cougars (26-14, 6-2 MWC) have now won three games in a row and five of their last six. BYU's offense has scored double-digit totals in each of its last three games.

In game one, the onslaught started early as the Cougars scored seven runs in the first two innings. In the first frame, BYU scored two on a RBI single by Emi Snow. Snow scored Krystle Chamberlain. Le`i also scored on an error on Snow's single.

In the second the Cougars exploded for five runs. The scoring started when reigning Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Andrea Ramirez roped a two-run double to score Jennifer Whiteley and Jodi Norton, who each singled to lead off the inning. After Chamberlain walked, Le`i plastered her 11th home run of the season, a three-run shot to put BYU up 7-0. The 11 homers are a single-season career best for Le`i who has now hit 35 round-trippers in her career.

Summer Tobias pitched well for the Cougars giving up only five hits in the game. The Lobos single run of the game came on a RBI single by Kristina Schmallen in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-1.

BYU struck again in the top of the sixth, scoring four more times. Three of the runs came on a bases-clearing double Le`i.

The Cougars held serve in the bottom of the fifth to win by the eight-run rule.

Game two started much like game one, with BYU jumping to an early lead. The Cougars scored three runs in the first inning. Ashlyn Russell picked up a RBI on a walk, Snow drove a run in on a fielder's choice and Stephanie Platt scored when she stole home on a double steal.

Norton put BYU ahead 4-0 when she led off the second inning with a solo home run, her eighth on the season. The Cougars added five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings and looked poised for another blowout victory.

Up 9-0 BYU committed a pair of errors to open the door for the Lobos. New Mexico scored four in the bottom of the fifth and six in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-9 lead over the Cougars. The Lobos big blow came on a grand slam off Schmallen's bat in the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh inning BYU came up big. Chamberlain and Le`i got aboard with a walk and a single to set the table for Lindi Kennedy. Kennedy roped a two-run single to give the Cougars an 11-10 lead. Tobias retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to pick up her second win of the day.

BYU remains on the road as it travels to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State in a Saturday doubleheader. First pitch is at noon (MDT).
