Affleck Says No-No

Image

ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico (May 9, 2008) -- BYU freshman Paige Affleck threw her first collegiate no-hitter in the softball team's (41-18, 13-6) 4-0 win over New Mexico on Friday night.

Affleck faced 25 batters and struck out nine, while walking four to combine for the complete-game no-hitter. She is now 14-3 in her rookie season.

"Affleck threw really well tonight," BYU head coach Gordon Eakin said. "As a team, we did a nice job."

The Cougars combined for four runs. Senior Daniela Snow recorded two RBI when she hit a two-run homer with in the top of the first inning.

Junior Stephanie Platt-Hopkins led off the third inning with a solo-shot and freshman Kristin Delahoussaye reached home on a wild pitch to bring BYU's lead to 4-0.

The four runs were all the Cougars needed with Affleck's dominating performance.

BYU concludes their regular season with one more game at New Mexico, Saturday at 7 p.m. Saturday will mark the final day of Mountain West Conference play, as BYU still remains in the fight for the Conference title.
