PROVO -- Kristin Delahoussaye’s walk-off one-run single gave BYU the 6-5 edge Saturday afternoon over in-state rival Utah for the second day in a row.

“You have to win at home in this conference and these two wins were imperative for us,” said BYU head coach Gordon Eakin. “This was a very entertaining game for the community which came down to the wire and we hope that they will continue to support us as our season goes on.”

After losing the day before, Utah came out swinging, scoring three runs during its first at-bat.

BYU bounced right back in the bottom of the first when freshman J.C. Clayton doubled to right field, Angie Quiocho walked and then Andrea Ramirez sent a three-run shot over the right field wall to tie the game up at three.

Ramirez currently leads the teams with 43 RBI and 14 homers for the season. Ramirez’s season high for RBI came last year with 47, and with almost half of the season left to play, she is well on her way of breaking her own record.

Utah went on to score one run in both the third and fourth inning to give them a two run lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, BYU tied the game once again at five a piece after Clayton blasted a two-run double to deep center field.

The game stayed tied at five until the bottom of the seventh when Delahoussaye stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off one-run single ending the game.

Paige Affleck was one strikeout away from tieing her single game record of 12. This record was set on February 14, 2008 against Northwestern State.

With 11 strikeouts today against Utah, Affleck ties one of her past season high set on April 11, 2008 against SDSU.

This second win against Utah puts BYU ahead in the Deseret First Duel 40-14 and earns BYU the trophy for the softball season of 2010.

The Cougars are currently in a six-game winning streak which is their second longest streak for the season.

BYU returns to the field Tuesday, April 13 to play to play UVU in Orem at 5 p.m.
