STOCKTON, Calif. — With a one-under-par solid team effort on Friday, the Cougars moved up to eighth place after day two of the Pacific Invitational.

"I'm happy with our improvement today," BYU head coach Bruce Brockbank said. "We shot 28 shots better than we did yesterday. I am proud of the guys for fighting back, and it was nice to see them show what we are more capable of."

Cougar sophomore CJ Lee and freshman Kaimakani Ruiz led the team shooting two-under-par a piece in today’s round of 18. Lee currently is tied for 24th place (+5), while Ruiz is tied for 44th at nine-over-par. Patrick Fishburn birdied and bogeyed four holes to shoot even par on the day. Fishburn now is tied for 13th place.

"Kai Ruiz played a great round of golf today. It was great for us to see a freshman to step up and get a good round in. CJ also played well, and Patrick was steady," Brockbank said. "I'd like to see our best round tomorrow so we can finish the fall season strong."

BYU, now at 26-over-par, sits alone in eighth place just one stroke behind seventh place Nevada (+25).  Shooting 13-under-par in today’s round, Sacramento State currently leads all teams at two-over-par overall while host and West Coast Conference team Pacific is in third place (+16).

Zach Pritchard shot four-over-par on the front nine, and one-under-par on the back nine and is tied for 56th place. Tommy Higham shot three-over-par on the day, and is in 71st place.

Teams will play the third and final round of the Pacific Invitational at Stockton Country Club, Saturday. Group play will begin at 9:30 a.m. MT.
