PROVO, Utah – No. 3 Washington overpowered the BYU softball team 13-3 Wednesday night at Gail Miller Field.

No. 3 Washington vs. BYU Box Score

BYU (20-20, 5-1 WCC) fell behind early to the Huskies (36-6, 12-3 Pac-12), the runner-up to the 2018 Women's College World Series champs, and could never quite get it going.

In the top of the second, Washington hit a three-run homer to left field to score the first runs of the game, making the score 3-0. The Huskies singled in another run in the top of the third to put the score up 4-0.

In the top of the fifth, Washington scored off a double to right center. With the bases loaded, the Huskies hit a single to center field, scoring two more, putting Washington up 7-0.

Washington tacked on an unearned run off a BYU error in the sixth for an 8-0 advantage.

BYU got on the board on the bottom of the sixth when Rylee Jensen advanced to third on an error and scored off Taylei William’s single up the middle.

The Huskies added five more in the seventh, including a grand slam to increase their lead to 13-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Marissa Chavez doubled to right center to bring Arissa Paulson home. Lexi Tarrow scored on an RBI groundout by Brooke Vander Heide, but the game was still too far out of reach.

The Cougars remain at home to host Southern Utah on Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. MDT at Gail Miller Field. The game will be available to watch as a live stream on BYUtv Digital.
