Softball takes down No. 25 Baylor
PROVO, Utah – BYU softball upset No. 25 Baylor, 4-1, in game one of a three-game series at Gail Miller Field on Thursday.

After a quick top of the first, Peterson connected on a pitch down and in and was able to pull it for her fourth home run of the season to put the Cougars up, 1-0. Violet Zavodnik logged the second hit of the day for BYU with a hard line drive into right field but was left stranded on second.
Moffat-Korth retired the first five Baylor batters before walking the sixth. A brief two-out rally was halted with a line out to first, leaving two runners on base.
Moffat-Korth continued to be a problem for the Bears, allowing just two hits through five innings pitched.
In the bottom half of the fifth, Taylei Williams hit the ball on a rope down the third base line and slid in for a double. Rylee Jensen followed with a blooper just over the first baseman’s head into no man’s land to score Williams from second to give BYU a 2-0 lead.
Martha Epenesa hit a rocket that bounced off the wall in right with two down in the bottom of the sixth. Huntyr Ava stepped in and hit a line drive that just made it over the fence in left for her fourth long ball of the season, extending the Cougar lead to four.
The Bears knocked their third hit of the game to lead off the top of the seventh but dug themselves into a two-out hole with a pair of groundouts. Aliyah Binford knocked in the first run of the day for Baylor with a hard grounder through the gap between shortstop and second. Josie Bower kept the two-out rally alive with another hard grounder in the gap, but Moffat-Korth’s fourth strikeout of the game sealed the 4-1 BYU win.
BYU will wrap up its series with Baylor in a doubleheader tomorrow, April 2. The first game is slated to begin at 1 pm MDT and game two is expected to start at approximately 3:30 p.m. MDT.
