PROVO -- The BYU softball team (16-14) visits Southern Utah (12-18) for a Wednesday afternoon double-header and then plays a home-opening weekend series against Idaho State (4-26) on Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars went 10-6 at Gail Miller Field in 2006 and are 70-29 all-time at home, where the team has never finished a season with a losing record. BYU head coach Gordon Eakin says the team is looking forward to playing in familiar surroundings.

"More than anything, it's getting to sleep in your own bed and reducing the stress related to school when you're not in town," Eakin said. "Being on the road since the second week of February, it does take a toll on you. We're excited to start playing at home."

BYU travels to Cedar City, Utah on Wednesday to face the Thunderbirds at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. On Friday, BYU plays for the home crowd at Gail Miller Field for the first time this season against Idaho State at 6 p.m. The Cougars host the Bengals once again on Saturday at noon.

"The excitement level of the team is still up," Eakin said. "We haven't put the kind of games together that we want to put together, but we still believe that we can and that we will."

Fans can catch all the weekend action live buy purchasing tickets at the ticket office at Miller Park. Saturday's game against Idaho State can be seen via live video.
