Born 8/14/60 in Provo, Utah ... parents are Eldon and Dorothy Roberts ... tried out for the U.S. team for the Pan Am Games in 1979 ... made a second appearance at the National Sports Festival in Colorado Springs in 1979 and was runner-up MVP and first team all-tourney ... was the leading scorer and rebounder in that tourney until her suffered a concussion and chipped seven teeth in the championship game ... played with the U.S. team in the Junior World Championships in Brazil in 1979 ... was one of 12 players on the U.S. All-Star team to China in 1979.

At BYU

High game as a freshman was 30 points against Texas-El Paso ... started in all of the Cougars' games ... hit double figures in 17 games and had four 10-rebound performances ... was directly responsible for come-from-behind road victories against Houston and Texas-El Paso ... named WAC player of the week when BYU insured a first place finish against Colorado State and Wyoming ... selected as Jo-lene player of the BYU-Utah game in Provo ... Fred led Bingham to unprecedented back-to-back championships as a junior and senior (3A as a junior, 4A as a senior) ... he was named player of the year both years ... also attended the San Diego Superstar camp where he won the one-on-one championship for centers ... listed in Parade Magazine All-America list ... competed in the Cactus Classic in Albuquerque, N.M. ... was one of 48 players in the nation to participate in the U.S. Olympic Festival at Colorado Springs in 1978 ... coached by George Sluga (Utah) at Bingham averaged 26.4 points per game at Bingham.

Finished as the second leading scorer in school history, behind Danny Ainge ... he shot a career average 55 percent from the field, the second best Cougar mark ever ... His career rebound total was also third on the all-time charts at BYU ...
