PROVO, Utah – Three-point shooting led BYU to a 90-76 victory over Eastern Kentucky in the Marriott Center on Saturday.

"Our guys were ready," BYU head coach Dave Rose said. "It was maybe as well as we've shared the ball all year. We had opportunities to drive it deep. We started driving it and kicking it out. I'm really proud of our guys and now we'll have a day off and another game against Utah State on Tuesday."

The Cougars (5-2) made 15 threes against the Colonels (4-1), shooting 53 percent from downtown. Tyler Haws led all the Cougars with 26 points while hitting 4 of 8 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists. Chase Fischer scored 20 points and also shot 4 of 8 from three. Anson Winder had 19 points off the bench with five rebounds and two steals.

Fischer started the Cougars off with a quick three to score the first points of the game. EKU answered with a couple threes of its own, going on a 6-0 run. A 3-pointer from Haws tied the game up at 10-10 with 15:15 left in the first half.

The hot shooting continued for Fischer. He made two in a row and a 2-point jumper to put BYU up 20-17 with 10:04 left in the half. The Colonels kept in the game with a quick layup from Corey Walden to get within two. Deverin Muff blocked a shot from Haws to get possession, then EKU was fouled and made both free throws to tie the game at 23-23 with 4:40 left in the first half.

The teams stayed close toward the end of the half. The score was tied six times and the lead changed four times in the first period. The Cougars took the lead late behind Frank Bartley IV. A quick pass inside from Skyler Halford set up Bartley for a layup and he was fouled. Bartley then grabbed the rebound off of his own missed free throw to take the 32-30 lead with 0:35 left. BYU held on to that lead going into halftime.

BYU started off the second half strong, going on a 9-0 run. Haws extended the run with a breakaway dunk after Winder stole the ball. The dunk pushed the Cougars to their first double-digit lead of the night at 43-33 with 16:25 left in the game.

The Cougars got hot from beyond the arc in the second half, making seven threes in seven scoring possessions, three of which came from Halford. A second trey from Haws in the series of threes pushed BYU’s lead to 64-41 with 11:15 left in the game.

Winder made an up-and-under layup to make it 73-51 with 7:00 left in the game, and BYU did not look back. Bartley saved an errant pass and found Kyle Collinsworth, who went up for the dunk. Collinsworth had 11 points and five assists on the night. Haws grabbed an offensive rebound and put it right back up for two to make it 83-63 with 3:35 left.

A 3-pointer from Winder put BYU up 90-69 with 0:53 left in the game. A few more buckets from EKU made the final score 90-76.

The Cougars hit the road on Tuesday, Dec. 2, to take on Utah State in Logan at 7 p.m. MST. The game will be televised live on the CBS Sports Networks and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.
