SAN FRANCISCO – Kyle Collinsworth’s third triple-double of the season led BYU men’s basketball over San Francisco 99-68 Saturday night at War Memorial Gym.

"It's really fun to watch because they're on attack and they're so unselfish the ball is moving from place to place," BYU basketball coach Dave Rose said. "We've got a handful of guys that are playing with such great confidence. Then it kind of spreads to the other guys." 

Collinsworth finished with 12 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists with Tyler Haws leading all scorers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Chase Fischer added 20 points of his own on 6 of 9 shooting from 3-point range.

Anson Winder scored all of his 17 points in the first half and added four assists. Freshman Jake Toolson scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds on the night.

San Francisco scored the first points of the game from deep but was answered by consecutive 3-pointers by Winder to give BYU an early 6-3 start. Fischer made two from downtown and was followed by Winder’s three-point play at the 12:56 mark to push the lead to 21-10.

Toolson reeled off a solo 9-0 run after connecting on three triples to extend the Cougars’ lead to 30-12 with less than 10 minutes left in the half. Haws and Winder added three more buckets from beyond the arc to make it a 25-point game with 4:52 remaining.

BYU entered halftime up 57-29 going 11 of 15 from deep with Winder leading all players with 17 points. Fischer followed with 11 points with Haws adding 10 points and four rebounds of his own. Toolson went 3 of 3 from 3-point range, while Collinsworth contributed six rebounds and six assists. BYU shot 74.1 percent in the first half, the best shooting first half during the Dave Rose era.

Collinsworth opened the second half with a bucket to give BYU a 30-point lead at 59-29. Less than five minutes in, Haws threw down a dunk to cap a 7-0 run to maintain a 68-33 lead. An 11-3 run by the Dons cut the lead to 27, but Haws connected on a 3-pointer to push the advantage back to 30.

BYU and USF traded baskets with Fischer making three 3-pointers to keep the 30-point lead with 8:27 left in the game. Answering each Dons bucket, BYU took the game 99-68 with five Cougars scoring 11 points or more. 

BYU finished the night shooting 60.0 percent from the field and 53.6 percent from beyond the arc while outrebounding USF 40-28.

The Cougars return to the Marriott Center to welcome Pepperdine on Thursday at 9 p.m. MST. The game will be televised live on ESPNU and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM/1160 AM.

After defeating Santa Clara 81-46 on New Year's Day, BYU will play its second WCC road game in three days when the Cougars play at San Francisco Saturday at Memorial Gymnasium at 8 p.m. PST. The game will be televised live on Root Sports and CSN Bay Area and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
