SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference announced today that BYU’s Brandon Davies and Tyler Haws have been named to the 2012-13 All-WCC Team. The All-WCC Team includes the top 10 players as voted upon by the league’s nine head coaches and is based on league games only.

Davies finished fifth in the league in scoring (15.8 points per game) and second in rebounding (7.9 rebounds per game). He also ranked among the league leaders in field goal percentage (6th, .505), assists (14th, 2.2 per game), steals (T10th, 1.3 per game) and blocks (T14th, 0.6 per game). Davies posted five double-doubles in league play and had five 20-point games.

Haws captured the league scoring title at 20.6 points per game and was among the league leaders in rebounding (18th, 4.6 per game), field goal percentage (10th, .474), free throw percentage (4th, .816) and minutes played (2nd, 35.1). He scored 20-plus points 11 times in league play and was BYU’s leading scorer 11 times.

After leading the Bulldogs to their 12th conference regular season title in the last 13 years, Gonzaga junior forward Kelly Olynyk has been named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year. Two other Bulldogs also picked up individual awards, with senior Mike Hart earning the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Mark Few garnering Coach of the Year accolades. Pepperdine freshman Stacy Davis is the West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year. All four individual awards – along with the All-West Coast Conference Team and the All-Freshman Team – were voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.

Kelly Olynyk becomes the 11th player in the history of Gonzaga University to be named West Coast Conference Player of the Year. A finalist for the Oscar Robertson Trophy given annually to the nation's top player, Olynyk leads the West Coast Conference in field goal percentage (66.8%), while ranking in the top 10 in both scoring (19.3 points per WCC contest) and rebounding (7.3 per conference game). He helped this year’s Zags to a perfect 16-0 WCC record – setting a new WCC mark for the most conference victories in a season.

Mike Hart is the sixth Gonzaga player to be recognized as Defensive Player of the Year by the conference's head coaches, and the second straight after Rob Sacre was honored in 2012. Hart anchored a stingy Gonzaga defense that allowed just 60.1 points per game in WCC play – more than three points per game fewer than any other team.  Zags’ West Coast Conference opponents connected on just 38.5% of their field goal opportunities.

Stacy Davis is the eighth player from Pepperdine University – and the first since Alex Acker in 2003 – to be honored as the West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year. Davis led all WCC freshmen in both scoring (10.7 points per game in WCC play) and rebounding (7.3 boards per contest vs. WCC opposition), while helping the Waves to their most victories in the last eight seasons.

After guiding his team to the first 16-0 record in West Coast Conference history, Gonzaga’s Mark Few is the WCC Coach of the Year. It is the ninth honor for Few, who coached the Bulldogs to a 29-2 regular season record and the program’s first No. 1 national ranking at season’s end. Under Few’s tutelage, the Zags ran the table in WCC play, and went 5-0 against Big 12 Conference competition. Overall, Few is one of three Gonzaga head coaches to be named WCC Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.

All nine West Coast Conference teams head to Las Vegas to compete for the conference championship and subsequent automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Action tips off at the 2013 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships Wednesday, March 6, when No. 8 Portland takes on 9-seed Loyola Marymount at 6:00 p.m. PT. The game can be seen live on BYUtv.
