Collinsworth cleared to play on Saturday
PROVO, Utah – BYU junior guard and preseason All-West Coast Conference honoree Kyle Collinsworth has been cleared by the team’s medical staff to play in Saturday’s exhibition against Seattle Pacific. Collinsworth has been rehabilitating a torn ACL in his right knee suffered at the end of the 2013-14 season.
Coach Dave Rose and his coaching staff will monitor Collinsworth’s minutes during Saturday’s exhibition and the early part of the regular season.
Collinsworth tore the ACL in his right knee on March 11, 2014, against Gonzaga in the title game of the WCC Basketball Championships. Surgery to repair the torn ACL was performed on March 18, two days before the Cougars faced Oregon in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.
Named to the All-WCC First Team in 2013-14, Collinsworth was one of the most versatile players in the nation last season. He led the Cougars in rebounding (8.1 per game) and assists (4.6 per game) and was second in scoring (14.0 per game) and steals (1.7 per game). Collinsworth was one of two players in the NCAA to be ranked among the top 100 in rebounds, assists and steals.
Prior to his sophomore season, Collinsworth served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Russia. He played his freshman season in 2010-11 and helped BYU reach the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament while averaging 5.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists.
Saturday’s game against Seattle Pacific is set to tip at 7 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center. The game will be televised live on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network on KSL Newsradio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM. The regular season begins Friday, Nov. 14, when the Cougars host Long Beach State at 5 p.m. MST in the Marriott Center.
