Worthington named WCC All-Academic
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has announced that BYU sophomore forward Luke Worthington has been named to the 2014-15 West Coast Conference Men's Basketball All-Academic Team. The list is headlined by two Capital One Academic All-America selections: Thomas van der Mars of the University of Portland earned first team honors, while Johnny Dee of the University of San Diego collected third team selection.
Worthington, a native of Mequon, Wisconsin, has started 21 of 29 games played and is averaging 2.0 points and 1.7 rebounds for the 22-8 Cougars.
Dee and van der Mars, a 2014 Academic All-American (third), make their third consecutive appearance on the WCC All-Academic squad. A record eight student-athletes make their debut for 2014-15.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
