Collinsworth named WCC Player of the Week for a fourth time
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU junior guard Kyle Collinsworth its Men's Basketball Player of the Week for March 2 after he led the Cougars to road wins at Portland (82-69) and No. 3/2 Gonzaga (73-70). The Player of the Week honor is the fourth for Collinsworth, the most by any player in the league this season.
With the wins, BYU was able to claim the No. 2 seed heading into the West Coast Conference Championships. The Provo, Utah, native averaged 17.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 2.5 steals for the week.
At Portland, Collinsworth totaled 15 points, six boards, 11 assists and three steals for his 13th double-double of the season. With BYU trailing 41-33 at the half, Collinsworth led a second half rally with seven points, five boards, nine assists and two steals as the Cougars outscored the Pilots 49-28 to claim the win.
In Spokane on Saturday, Collinsworth scored a game-high 20 points to go with eight boards, three assists, one block and two steals as the Cougars defeated No. 3/2 Gonzaga, BYU's first win against a top 3 team since defeating No. 2 UCLA in 1981. He scored eight of BYU's last 11 points, including a three-point play that gave the Cougars a 69-61 lead with 2:52 remaining and a layup with 17 seconds left to keep BYU up five at 71-66.
