TEAM NOTES

Dave Rose started Kyle Collinsworth, Nick Emery, Chase Fischer, Kyle Davis and Nate Austin. It is the third different starting lineup of the season for Rose in the 2015-16 season.

BYU had 9 triples in the first half to set a new season-best for treys in a first half. They hit 16 for the game, the third time this season the Cougars made double-digit treys and most of the year. Sixteen 3-point makes are the second most in program history and the most against an NCAA Division I opponent. BYU’s 16 3-pointers tied the Diamond Head Classic team record.

Against Harvard, BYU made just three 3-pointers all game. The Cougars had three makes from downtown by the 16:25 mark in the first half and tripled their game total by the end of the first half.

BYU had four players in double figures led by Chase Fischer’s 41, Nick Emery with 20 and Kyle Collinsworth and Kyle Davis adding 10 apiece.

BYU made 16 shots from behind the arc, accounting for 50 percent of its 32 makes from the field, the highest number for the Cougars this season.

BYU led for all but 73 seconds in the game. BYU’s 30-point win is the third largest margin of victory this season.

PLAYER NOTES

Chase Fischer finished with 41 points, a new career high and most by at BYU player this season. He is the 10th different BYU player to log a 40-point game. The total set the Diamond Head Classic record for points scored in a single game. He hit five 3-pointers in the first half, a season-best for the senior and made 9 of 14 for the game, also setting a Diamond Head Classic for made threes. It was his 10th career game of at least five treys. Last year at the Maui Invitational, Fischer his 10 treys. The nine 3s are tied for second most by a Cougar in a single game with Jimmer Fredette.

Kyle Collinsworth had 9 assists in the game, giving him 518 for his career to pass Jimmer Fredette (515) for 4th all-time at BYU. He also finished with 10 points, his 11th game this season in double figures and 76th of his career to tie Jonathan Tavernari for 13th at BYU. His 5 steals was a season high, one off his career high of 6.  Collinsworth notched his 106th career start, moving him into No. 12 at BYU.

Nick Emery hit 5 treys, giving him 29 for the season to tie Jonathan Tavernari for 6th among freshmen at BYU. He scored 20 points, the fourth 20-point game of his freshman season to tie Tyler Haws for 7th at BYU as a freshman. He has scored in double-figures with at least 1 3-pointer each game for 9 consecutive games.

Kyle Davis finished with 10 points. Davis has scored in double figures every game this season. He notched 6 rebounds, giving him at least 6 boards every game.

Zac Seljaas hit 2 treys, making it five consecutive games with a 3-pointer and four-straight with multiple 3s.

Nate Austin’s made his first start since Dec. 14, 2014 against Utah and 54th of his career. It was the 128th game played in his career, tying him with Mark Durrant for 13th all-time at BYU.

Jamal Aytes posted a career high 6 rebounds to go with 9 points.

"The main key to winning this game today was that we needed to stay together and rely on each other. Sometimes you get into tough spots and you want to do things yourself or all by yourself. That is what I was proud of the most. We got off to a good start, we had good energy but we stayed engaged in what we wanted to do for most of those 40 minutes. It was a good win for our team."

"Defensively it was a totally different challenge than Harvard. We knew there would be spots where we could get free. Chase got free and made that first shot and it gave everybody a lot of energy when we know one of our main guys is having some real success early. Then he was just unbelievable."

"I think it's my responsibility as a leader and a captain on this team. Coach Rose has played me since I got here and I have a responsibility to play well and if I'm not playing well at least play hard. Everyone is going to have bad shooting nights but I am working on being a more consistent guy. I think some of it is we are a young team trying to find ourselves and are trying to find it every night."

"It's good with the Holidays coming up and you don't want to be doom and gloom with two losses. It was big for our team and big for our morale. New Mexico is a good team and I think we played really well today. Our guys can relax now and enjoy Hawaii for a couple of days and try and move forward and get the win over Washington State or Northern Iowa."
