BYU to host UAB in NIT first round

BYU vs. UAB Game Notes

No. 2 seed BYU basketball will face No. 7 seed UAB in the first round of the 2016 National Invitational Tournament Wednesday at 8 p.m. MDT in the Marriott Center. The winner of BYU vs. UAB will face the winner of No. 3 seed Virginia Tech and No. 6 seed Princeton in the second round.

Wednesday's game will be televised live on ESPNU and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, KSL NewsRadio 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143. Live video streaming will be available on WatchESPN.com.

BYU Storylines

  • BYU is headed to the National Invitational Tournament for the 11th time in program history and third time under Dave Rose. The Cougars last went to the NIT in 2013, when they defeated Washington, Mercer and Southern Miss to advance to Madison Square Garden. BYU, a No. 3 seed in 2013, lost to Baylor in the semifinals.
  • BYU enters the NIT as a No. 2 seed and will host No. 7 seed UAB Wednesday at 8 p.m. MDT. The Cougars and Blazers last played on Dec. 9, 1989 with BYU winning 98-82. The winner of BYU vs. UAB will play the winner of No. 3 seed Virginia Tech and No. 6 seed Princeton.
  • Kyle Collinsworth is one of only two players in the country, along with LSU’s Ben Simmons, ranked in the top 100 in rebounds, assists and steals. Last season he was the only player ranked in the top 100 in all three categories.
