SALT LAKE CITY – BYU’s Kyle Collinsworth was named the College Male Athlete of the Year at the 2016 Governor’s State of Sport Awards Tuesday night at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

The 2016 Governor's State of Sport Awards celebrated Utah's sports industry and honored excellence in high school, amateur, collegiate, Olympic and professional sports for the 2015 calendar year.

Sports media and industry leaders throughout Utah selected the categories and nominees. Winners were selected through an online fan vote.

During the 2015 calendar year, Collinsworth averaged 14.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.7 steals. He was the only player in the country ranked in the top 100 in rebounds, assists and steals. The NCAA’s single season and career triple-double record holder posted six triple-doubles and 14 double-doubles in 2015.

Collinsworth, BYU’s all-time leader for assists in a season and career, had 10 games in 2015 with double-digit assists.

One of his best games in 2015 came on Feb. 28 when Collinsworth led BYU to a 73-70 win at No. 3/2 Gonzaga, ending the Bulldogs’ 41-game home win streak. Collinsworth had 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals in the win – BYU’s first win over a top three team since 1981.
