Cougar Tipoff set for Wednesday

PROVO, Utah – Cougar fans will have the opportunity to see BYU men’s basketball in action at the annual Papa John's Cougar Tipoff on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 7 p.m. MDT in the Marriott Center.

The Cougars return four players with starting experience in 2016-17, including All-WCC sophomore guard Nick Emery and senior forward Kyle Davis, who posted eight double-doubles a year ago. Also returning is sophomore big man Eric Mika, who earned All-WCC Freshman Team honors in 2013-14 before serving an LDS Mission in Italy.

Fans will also have the opportunity to see BYU’s talented freshman class that includes three ESPN top 100 recruits. TJ Haws, ranked No. 67 by ESPN in the 2014 class coming out of Lone Peak High School, was a four-time Utah state champion and the 2014 Mr. Basketball. Yoeli Childs led Bingham High School to the Utah 5A title last season and was the No. 57 recruit in 2016 according to ESPN. Payton Dastrup, a 6-foot-10 forward from Arizona, was ranked 98th by ESPN.

Greg Wrubell and Mark Durrant will be on the headsets to provide live coverage on the Cougar IMG Sports Network. Their live call will be available on Sirius XM 143, ESPN 960 AM and BYUcougars.com. IMG’s radio coverage will begin at 7 p.m. MDT.

BYU Broadcasting will air the game live online at BYUtv.org. BYUtv Sports Nation’s Spencer Linton and Jarom Jordan will call the action.

The event is free to the public and doors open at 6 p.m. with player introductions at 7 and tipoff at 7:05.

BYU plays its first of two exhibitions on Saturday, Oct. 29, against Seattle Pacific. The second exhibition will be played Wednesday, Nov. 9, against BYU-Hawaii. Both games tip at 7 p.m. MT and will be televised on BYUtv and broadcast on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, KSL 102.7 FM and 1160 AM and BYU Radio Sirius XM 143.
