Road swing takes Cougars to Santa Clara

BYU basketball will finish the first half of West Coast Conference play when the Cougars go on the road to face Santa Clara in the Leavey Center Thursday at 8 p.m. PST. Thursday's game will be televised live on ESPNU and broadcast live on the Cougar IMG Sports Network, 102.7 FM/1160 AM and BYU Radio – Sirius XM 143.

BYU opened West Coast Conference play on Dec. 29, 2016, with an 89-59 win over Santa Clara in the Marriott Center. Eric Mika (19 points), TJ Haws (17) and Steven Beo (12) scored in double-figures while the Cougars out-shot the Broncos 53.3 percent to 30.4.

Yoeli Childs is coming off his best week on the boards, racking up 14 rebounds in wins over Pepperdine and Pacific. For the season he is averaging 8.1 rebounds per game, good enough for third in the WCC and currently second all-time among BYU freshmen.

With 45 3-pointers, TJ Haws is now third all-time among BYU freshmen for 3-pointers in a single season. Haws is also seventh in the WCC in 3-point field goals per game (2.1) and steals per game (1.2).
