Haws and Worthington named to WCC All-Academic Team
SAN BRUNO, Calif. – The West Coast Conference has named BYU's TJ Haws and Luke Worthington to the 2018-19 WCC Men's Basketball All-Academic Team.
Haws is one of four student-athletes to repeat as WCC All-Academic Team selections while Worthington earned WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention last season. Both players are team captains. Other repeat honorees include Gonzaga’s Josh Perkins earning his third and final selection to the all-academic team and the San Francisco tandem of Jordan Ratinho and Nate Renfro making their second-straight appearance on the first team.
A junior from Alpine, Utah, Haws is averaging 17.5 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has posted season highs of 35 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals. The finance major leads the Cougars in assists, steals, free-throw percentage and 3-point field goals.
Worthington, a family life major, has played in all 28 games and started nine times. He averages 3.2 points and 2.4 rebounds while shooting 52.4 percent from the field. The Mequon, Wisconsin, native has season highs of 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to his team.
