Haws earns Academic All-District for second-straight year

PROVO, Utah – BYU senior guard TJ Haws was named to the Academic All-District 8 Team selected by CoSIDA on Thursday.

District 8 is made up of colleges and universities in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Canada. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his current institution.

First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced between March 9-12.

The Academic All-District 8 team also includes Brooks DeBisschop (Northern Arizona University), Sam Merrill (Utah State), Mason Peatling (Eastern Washington University) and Ethan Thompson (Oregon State University).

A repeat Academic All-District honoree, Haws has helped lead BYU to a No. 23 ranking in the AP Poll with a record of 21-7 overall and 10-3 in the West Coast Conference. Haws is currently averaging 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.3 steals per game. The finance major has posted season highs of 29 points, five rebounds, 14 assists and four steals and leads the Cougars in assists and steals.

For his career, Haws has earned first- (2016-17) and second-team (2018-19) All-West Coast Conference honors, is a two-time WCC All-Academic Team honoree (2019 and 2020) and received NABC All-District Second Team recognition in 2018-19. In the BYU career record book, Haws is eighth all-time in scoring, third in assists, third in 3-point field goals and eighth in steals. He also owns the BYU men’s basketball record for consecutive games started at 129.
