BYU to Play Final Tune-up on Tuesday
PROVO -- In preparation for Friday’s 2008-09 season opener, BYU men’s basketball will play its final exhibition game on Tuesday when the Cougars host Georgetown College in the Marriott Center at 7:30 p.m.
Georgetown is 3-0 on the season and ranked No. 6 in the NAIA Division I. Last season the Tigers were undefeated in the regular season, made a trip to the NAIA Fab Four and finished 35-1 overall. Senior guard Demetrius Guions and freshman forward Vic Moses lead Georgetown with identical scoring averages of 14.7 points per game. Moses also leads the Tigers in rebounds at 8.0 per game.
On Nov. 1 Georgetown gave Louisville all it could handle in an exhibition contest before falling 74-67 to the Cardinals. The Tigers were within two at 69-67 with 41 seconds remaining but Louisville converted its free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
BYU defeated Concordia University 96-54 on Nov. 6 in its first exhibition game. Sophomore Jimmer Fredette led all scorers with 26 points and captains Lee Cummard and Jonathan Tavernari contributed 15 points apiece.
Tuesday’s game will be broadcast live on BYUTV. KSL Newsradio will stream the game live online at KSL.com. Greg Wrubell will call the play-by-play action with former Cougar player Mark Durrant providing the color commentary.
Tickets are available at the Marriott Center Ticket Office (1-800-322-BYU1 or 422-BYU1) or online at BYUTickets.com.
