“I’m really looking forward to going in and fitting in really well,” Fredette said. “I think we’re going to have a good team. I’m really looking forward to going out there.”

Fredette was the first college senior selected in the 2011 NBA Draft. In 2010, the first senior was not selected until No. 23, Trevor Booker to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Fredette is the eighth BYU player selected in the first round and the first since Rafael Araujo was selected eighth by the Toronto Raptors in 2004. He is the 43rd BYU men’s basketball player (45th selection overall) to be selected in the NBA Draft. Fredette joins Trent Plaisted (No. 46 – Seattle Supersonics, 2008), Rafael Araujo (No. 8 – Toronto Raptors, 2004) and Travis Hansen (No. 37 – Atlanta Hawks, 2003) as BYU's draftees in the last decade.

The 6-foot-2 Fredette led the nation in scoring (28.9 points per game) this season and was the nation’s consensus player of the year, as he received every major award, including the Wooden, Naismith and Oscar Robertson Trophies. Fredette led BYU to a program-record 32 victories, a trip to the Sweet 16 and a final AP ranking of 10. He also set a program record with 124 threes and added 4.3 assists per game.

The native of Glens Falls, N.Y., concluded his BYU career as the program’s all-time leader in scoring (2,599 points) and threes (296) and fourth in assists (515) and steals (167). Fredette had his best performance against New Mexico in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference Tournament when he set BYU and MWC records with 52 points while hitting 22-of-37 from the field and 7-of-14 from three.

For his career, Fredette was named to the All-MWC First Team and earned all-district honors for three-consecutive seasons.
